All the leaves are brown…orange, red and yellow…and the sky is grey (well, at least for those of you ladies lucky enough to live in a seasonal climate). Yes, today marks the autumn equinox, which means it’s officially fall! Clocks will soon be falling back.
Our days will be getting shorter and our nights longer. Which could mean a few extra hours of precious zzz’s for you and the kids. Studies have shown that unwinding earlier in the evening will help you get a better nights rest. Once night falls, you’ll naturally be inclined to unwind. Which means you can score some extra sleep, super charge your mom batteries and send the kids off to school well-rested and ready to learn.
In his book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, Marc Weissbluth, MD, says:
“Sleep is the power source that keeps your mind alert and calm. Every night and at every nap, sleep recharges the brain’s battery. Sleeping well increases brainpower just as weight lifting builds stronger muscles, because sleeping well increases your attention span and allows you to be physically relaxed and mentally alert at the same time. Then you are at your personal best.”
While we LOVE the idea of getting more zzz’s and being at our personal best, we ♥ fall most because it marks the beginning of the holiday season—it marks the coming of warm pumpkin pies, gingerbread houses and family gatherings.
